HARINGEY COUNCIL has tackled blue badge holders who broke rules of match day parkings after they were found with other peoples badges.
A total of seven badges were confiscated after an operation took place near Tottenham Hotspur’s White Hart Lane Stadium in North London. The badges allow drivers to park in areas which are usually restricted, for example some streets close to the stadium on match days- so fans are close to their destination.
Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Environment Cllr Stuart McNamara said: “Blue badges are there to help those in need and it is unacceptable that they are abused by people who don’t need them, just so that they have a convenient place to park.^
The blue badges are only to be used by the badge hold and not be borrowed or given to someone else. In one of the enforcement operations, one driver was caught using a badge belonging to a deceased relative and another which had already been reported as lost.
Cllr Stuart McNamara added: “We are determined to crack down on this behaviour at locations where we hear it is happening, and will continue to work to ensure that the behaviour of a selfish few does not impact on our most vulnerable residents.”
Match Day restrictions are in place near White Hart Lane to manage the high volume of traffic which travels through the area.
