Whilst the increasing numbers of self-harming is worrying, some recent researches suggest that Turkish and Turkish speaking community’s commit to self-harm and suicides a lot more than other local and indigenous societies. These recent researches, along with real case stories were tackled under the project Eylem’s first meeting, which had laid the foundations of the project in London. Eylem Project now has met with the London community by a ball event at the one and only Cyprus Garden. Founders of the project Özlem Eylem and Çınar Arkuter along with assistant therapists Çınar Arkuter and Fatma Arnavut got on with their presentations at the event.

The evening consisted of a sit down dinner, with live music and presentations from the Eylem Team and guest speakers on what the community project will consist of; how they aim to move forward and how you can get involved, and most importantly raising awareness about mental health and the negative impact it can have on the Turkish speaking Community.

Starting off with a live presentation, the speeches were moderated by one of Londra Gazete’s journalists, Onur Uz, as also one of the contributors to the project. Speaking at the event, Ceyda Özlü remarked the importance of approaching Turkish community by grounding the culture, art and creativity on creating such project. Eylem’s standpoint “Using art to promote mental well-being”, Dr Özlü remarked that Eylem Project will comprise artistic enterprises along with being a platform for Turkish speaking communities to use as a way to retain help, and reflect their well-being.

Özlem Eylem, in her speech, tackled her initiative “Kıyma Canına” which will have its launch in December in Amsterdam. Özlem Eylem talked about her putting to the project by highlighting Kıyma Canına platform, which will be an online platform offering e-counselling, targeting to reduce the suicidal attempts and tendencies amongst the community in Turkey, UK and Netherlands.

Answering to the questions by the audience, the team and guests then enjoyed the delicious treats and music of Cyprus Garden.
