By Ceylan Hassan: What I know is that as I type these words from a country currently at peace, another country is being shattered to the ground.

I don’t know where to start, what to write or even how I’m going to put this into words. What I do know is that as I type these words from a country currently at peace, another country is being shattered to the ground.

As Israel and Palestine enter their second week of what I don’t even know what to call anymore, I want to share with you my view on it all.

I write each and every word you read not as a journalist, as a Muslim or even as a British born and bred citizen, but as a human-being.

A fortnight in now and when I log into Facebook I see Palestine, when the news comes on I see Palestine and when I have a conversation with someone I hear Palestine.

But besides all of this, what I really see are innocent people. I see children, I see bombs being fired, I see graphic videos fill my news feed and most of all I hear the pain-filled screams from two countries who are losing their people.

I’m not here to tell you what’s going on or give you an essay on the history of these countries or any others who have encountered war, terrorism, killings, genocide and so on.. I’m here to ask you to take a moment and think about it all.

Think about every innocent person who has been killed through war, because of world leaders and their ‘disputes’. Yes, war is war and the reality is innocent people will always die. Yet when it all becomes to do with not being able to have your cake and eat it- accept that humanity couldn’t be anymore lost.

The way I see it is that as leaders across the world play the game of “See no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil..” The power of the people goes from strength to strength, several mass protests have taken place in support of Palestine and the freedom for the people of Gaza. This helps me keep my faith in people, in humanity and most of all in belief that there is still some kind of hope for world peace.

This war crime or whatever you want to address it as is not and should not be about religion, race or any other status.. Had this been another country in the same situation as Palestine and Israel, I like to think that the support for them and pain shared would be no different. Why? Because each and everyone of us hear the same sound when our hearts beat and when we scream.

Right now the most loudest sound I hear is silence.. World leaders are continuing to stay silent, how long they can keep that up for only God knows.

Whether you’ve been watching what’s going on, following social media posts or have chosen not comment on it…

I want you to close your eyes, cover your ears as tight as you can and listen.

Hear that? Deadly silent isn’t it? That’s right, because your people are dying and the whole world is watching in silence. Just try and imagine how that must feel?

Remember that today it may be Palestine, it may be Israel, it may be Ukraine, Iran, or Syria, and tomorrow it could be you…

One of the most truthful posts I’ve seen in the last week was: ‘You don’t need to be Muslim to stand up for Gaza, you just need to be HUMAN’

So I leave you with the quote below and believe we stand together as one, as the power of the people in solidarity for world peace.!

‘The sole meaning of life…is to serve humanity’

Leo Toltsoy..
