THE TURKISH Ambassador hosted a reception at the Embassy last Thursday to celebrate the 86th Turkish Republic Day.

Ambassador Yiğit Alpogan hosted the event at the official Turkish Residence in London which brought together many who are prominent in the Turkish and Turkish Cypriot communities, as well as English speaking guests.

There were a number of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) also represented, among them the Council of Turkish Cypriots UK (Konsey) with the attendance of chairman Akmen Sitki and the chairman of the Federation of Turkish Associations, Sener Saglam.

A number of Turkish military personnel currently here in the UK also attended.

In his speech, Ambassador Alpogan said it was a pleasure to welcome his guests to the reception to celebrate the 86th founding of the modern Turkish Republic. He added that the ideals that founder Mustafa Ataturk had for the nation continue and that Turkey was a respected and democratic member of the international community.

Ambassador Alpogan also said it was important for Turks in the UK to fully take part in society here, to get involved in the political, economic and social life of the country.
